PhD thesis: Urban shades of green. Current patterns and future prospects of nature conservation in urban landscapes.

 

Spring 2012

February I start my new post-doc position at Stockholm Resilience Centre within the EkoKlim project involving several departments at Stockholm University and adressing social-ecological dynamics and climate change in the Mälaren catchment area.

January I finish my research tasks within the Stockholm Resilience Centre's Integrated Coastal Zone Management project, EcoFriends and ReStore at Umeå University.

December I worked for KemI summarising the development of and current discussion on the concept of ecosystem services.

October 28 I participated in a workshop on Sustainable cities in Karlstad organised by Edsbergsstiftelsen. About the workshop.

October 5 I presented my research at Forskardagarna at Stockholm University. About Forskardagarna.

September 1-30 I'm getting further involved in the project Stories for Society, where we use story creation as a pedagogical tool in schools. About Stories for Society.

August 11, see my 5 minutes video seminar on Protected Areas in Cities recorded by Stockholm Resilience Centre.

July 19 the paper Outside the boundary - Land use changes in the surroundings of urban nature reserves by me, S.A.O. Cousins and R. Lindborg has been published in the journal Applied Geography (vol 32:350-359).

Working in several interesting research projects:

  • ReStore - at Umeå University.
  • ICZM - at Stockholm Resilience Centre

Research in Urban Systems Ecology

My Research: Urban Nature Conservation
I successfully defended my thesis in February 2011. The thesis is about urban nature conservation discussing for whom and for what nature is preserved in Swedish cities.

Besides thesis work I'm also involved in developing a science-policy platform focusing on Stockholm green wedges with international relevance.
